Jeffrey Dean Hamer was born on February 20, 1966, to Herbert & Donna (Hoff) Hamer in Hendricks, Minnesota. On June 21, 1986, he was united in marriage with Darla Pearson. Jeff attended Alexandria Vo-Tech where he went to school to be a law enforcement officer, later joining the Nebraska State Patrol. Together they raised three children whom he adored greatly: Hope, Ashley, and Alexander.
Jeff truly enjoyed life and believed it was all about family and showing care for others. He was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with his family and friends. His philosophy through life was to not dwell on negativity but to keep life simple and enjoy everything while he could. He had various roles in his life as a mechanic working on trucks, Nebraska State Trooper, and most recently, sales at Billion Automotive.
Jeff loved to tinker and spend time fixing up anything that he could. He was our favorite fix-it man helping any of us with anything we needed. He was teaching Bristol all his tricks over the last 2 years as they spent time together each day.
He and Darla bought a lake lot back in Hendricks where they loved to relax and spend time with friends and family. He would fish, and take the kids and grandkids swimming and boating, and Emma spent many days at the camper with just Grandpa and Grandma as his right-hand girl. Jeff was so proud of his trees at the lake, he clipped branches from Lance & Ashley’s trees and he said they were the fastest-growing trees known to man everyone laughed when he told them this, but by gosh they grew so fast and everyone was amazed. He recently was able to make a trip to the lake to see his trees since they had been planted and he was amazed at how big they were. Those things grew 20 feet in a year.
Jeff also loved to garden and he recently taught Alex how to garden. They grew one throughout the winter, which Alex continued to work on and they worked on right up until his final days. Ryder Dean loved Papa’s garden just as much and would always bring him anything and everything he could from the garden. He also spent many mornings at Blaine’s, the local gas station with Bristol drinking coffee and enjoying those he met and sitting outdoors just soaking up the peacefulness.
NASCAR was one of his favorite things and each year he, Darla & Rayleigh would go to a new race track. Talya loved to tell Papa jokes and they would joke back and forth their latest was “Guess What? Picklebutt.” He was a man of many things but most of all a family man. He was always making it a point to attend any family function and never miss anything going on. His wife, children, and grandchildren were the light of his life and everyone who knew him could see that. Jeff was a friend to many and loved by all he met no matter who you were he always made you feel welcome. Just like everything Jeff did, he made sure that he got what he wanted his wishes were honored and he was able to pass peacefully at home surrounded by his immediate family.
Jeff will be deeply missed by his wife of 37 years Darla Hamer; daughters, Hope (Dusty) Stultz, Brandon, Ashley (Lance) Richter, Renner; son, Alexander (Taylor Freeman), Brandon; five grandchildren, Rayleigh, Emma, Bristol, Talya, and Ryder Dean; mother Donna (Hamer) Thurow, Brandon; brother, Herbert Jr (Kathy) Hamer, Brandon; his two beloved dogs, Remi and Chaz; along with nieces and nephews, and an abundance of family and friends.
Jeff is preceded in death by his dad, Herbert Hamer Sr.; brothers, Joel and Timothy; father-in-law, Kenneth Pearson; and step-dad, Eldon Thurow.
