Donald Lilyquist, 86, of Sioux Falls, died Monday, April 30th at Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Donald Lee Lilyquist was born April 23, 1932 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education, attending Washington High School. Don entered military service and served in the US Navy for 4 years. He received his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1955
On May 6, 1955, he was united in marriage with Carol Leitheiser in Luverne, MN. The couple lived in Sioux Falls. Donald worked at John Morrell and Co. and later became a sales associate for Sears. He retired from Sears in 2004.
He was a member of the Vietnam Motorcycle Club; a life member of H.O.G. where he served on the organization’s board and eventually became president of the group. He was instrumental in developing boys softball in Sioux Falls and helped get McCart field established. Don was President of Sioux Fall Youth Softball and also umpired at Sherman for years. Don was an avid motorcyclist and rode for over 70 years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children; daughter Lisa Jacobson and her son Robert “Jake” (Carley); son, Jeff Lilyquist and his children, Sheré and Jenna, along with their mother, Michelle; a daughter, Lori Varns (Scott) and her children Kayla (Conrad), Michael and Nathan; 5 great grandchildren; two brothers, David Lilyquist from California and Darrell Lilyquist from North Carolina and a sister, Joy Davis, from California. Donald was preceded in death by his wife Carol, on September 18, 2000; his parents, Art and Edna and his aunt Emma.
Memorial services will begin 2:00 pm Saturday, May 12th at Miller Funeral Home Westside Chapel. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to service time.
